I have had the pleasure of participating in research studies for folks living with HIV/AIDS conducted by the Liberating Research group. Not only was I touched by the idea of these studies being conducted to learn more about living with this virus in a world that seems to place little importance on it or those of us who struggle do so, I was even more impressed with Liberating Research themselves. My encounters with their staff, coordinators and affiliates were not only professional, timely and courteous but most importantly they were extremely respectful and done in such a dignified manner. I was treated with extreme respect and care that I will never forget and which is not so very common in today's day and age. These studies allowed me to be my authentic self in an atmosphere of safety and extreme ease. I highly recommend Liberating Research and applaud the work they are doing! My experience with Liberating Research was a very pleasant one. From the initial screening, through the scheduling and the actual interviews the staff was friendly, courteous, professional and displayed genuine interest in my story. The instructions for the study interviews were presented in a way that was clear and hassle-free.

I have to admit that I saw an unexpected benefit in telling my story. I have been busy living my life, but not really taking an opportunity to reflect on the journey that has brought me to this point. I found myself remembering things that I had forgotten or learned to simply take for granted. Upon considering where I was and where I am now, I realized that I am a strong survivor and capable of handling a lot. I felt absolutely empowered!
